The best products in a building are the ones nobody ever sees.

The first one was in 2008, for 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty. They needed to show homeowners what was actually behind their walls — the systems and assemblies a warranty covers but no one can point to. There wasn't a name for it yet. We just cut the house open and drew what was inside.

Nearly two decades later, that technique is VIZ Cutaway®, a federally registered trademark and the work VIZ is known for. A precision slice through a building, an assembly, or a product that holds the exterior and the interior in a single comprehensive view — structure, systems, and space all legible at once.

It solves a specific problem that almost every building products manufacturer has: the product performs where it can't be seen. Sealants, membranes, fasteners, insulation, ductwork, plumbing, mechanical equipment — all of it disappears behind drywall within days of installation. A cutaway is how a specifier understands where a product sits in the assembly, and how a homeowner understands what they're paying for.

The same view turns out to solve other problems too. Hospital foundations use it to show donors the care happening inside a building they're funding. Manufacturers use it on trade show walls and billboards. Builders use it to explain a structural system. Once you can see inside, a lot of arguments get easier to make.
